BROOKS NOMINATES LAZIO FOR GOVERNOR AT 2010 STATE REPUBLICAN CONVENTION
Encourages New Yorkers to Unite Behind Strong Candidate and Message
June 2, 2010
Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks formally nominated former Rep. Rick A. Lazio as candidate for Governor at the 2010 New York State Republican Convention held today in Manhattan. Submitting the nomination, Brooks heralded Lazio’s experience, independence, and record of fiscal responsibility.
“Today, it is truly my honor to nominate Rick Lazio as the Republican Party’s candidate for Governor of New York,” said Brooks at the Convention. “New York’s hardworking taxpayers and families need a leader that offers more than just talk about more jobs, less spending, and stable taxes – they need a leader that has the conviction and conservative values to get the job done. Rick is that candidate, and everyday New Yorkers need a leader like Rick now more than ever before.”
In addition to citing his commitment to putting people before politics, Brooks also highlighted Lazio’s extensive experience in the public and private sectors, his near 100% conviction rate as a prosecutor with the Suffolk District Attorney’s office, and his success in producing balanced budgets, tax cuts, and Welfare reform during four terms in the United States House of Representatives.
“It’s past time that Albany comes to realize there’s only one special interest that really matters, and that’s the taxpayer,” continued Brooks. “No matter what Rick's opponents like to say about being ‘outsiders,’ New Yorkers know that failed Democrat leadership is part of the problem, not the solution. I’m wholeheartedly confident that as Governor, Rick will fight to protect what State government was first established to serve – the best interests of New Yorkers and their families.”
