Police Unions Stand United Behind
Monroe County Sheriff Patrick O’Flynn

In his bid to win re-election as the county’s top law enforcement official, Monroe County Sheriff Patrick O’Flynn (R-C-I) has won a powerful ally – the police association that represents city, county and state police officers, as well as the police benevolent associations in nine Monroe County towns and villages.

At a press conference at the Rochester Police Locust Club, a representative of the Monroe County Police Benevolent Association stated the association, in its endorsement of Sheriff O’Flynn, “is putting to rest any question about where our loyalties stand in the upcoming elections.”

“Those loyalties,” said Michael Mazzeo, President of the Rochester Police Locust Club, “are solidly and unanimously behind Sheriff O’Flynn.”

Sheriff O’Flynn is seeking a third four-year term in the November 3rd elections.

“Sheriff Patrick O’Flynn is an experienced leader with over 33 years of law enforcement experience,” Mazzeo said. “Sheriff O’Flynn is committed to the community of Monroe County and the Law Enforcement officers who work everyday in the streets to keep the community safe.”

Mazzeo said the endorsement by the Monroe County Police Benevolent Association applies to all law enforcement officers represented by the Rochester Police Locust Club, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Benevolent Association, and the local police benevolent associations in Irondequoit, Webster, Gates, Greece, Fairport, East Rochester, Brockport and Ogden.

“We also stand here today with our brothers and sisters of the New York State Police Benevolent Association,” Mazzeo said. “These units also are affiliated with the Police Conference of New York, which represents 205 police associations, eight regional conferences and one retired police association, with a membership of over 25,000.”

“These organizations have as their objectives to better the working conditions of police officers, assist in fostering better working relations, the professional development of its members, the elevate the standards of integrity and honor in the profession, and to defend units and their interests in actions brought against them in connection with the performance of their duties,” Mazzeo said.

“Sheriff O’Flynn’s experience is unique in this county, from the time he began his law enforcement career in 1978, attending the Bureau of Municipal Police Academy as a trainee, working as a Road Patrol Deputy, Sergeant, Lieutenant, and Undersheriff, until being elected eight years ago as our Sheriff,” Mazzeo said.
