Assemblyman Bill Reilich (R, C, I - Greece) today announced that he will be conducting the annual Summer Reading Challenge. The reading challenge will take place throughout the months of July and August. Students who read at least 40 days during those months, will receive a New York State Assembly Excellence of Reading Certificate.
“The Summer Reading Challenge offers children along with their parents or guardians, the pportunity to take advantage of summer break and read together, providing them with an educational activity during the long summer days,” stated Reilich.
The Summer Reading Challenge is open to all children of middle and elementary school ages. Private, public, and home-schooled children are encouraged to participate.
“Studies have found that children who continue reading throughout the summer months do better in school the following year,” said Reilich. “I encourage all families to participate in the program, giving parents and guardians the opportunity to take advantage of this special time of growth and development in their child’s life.”
The reading challenge is sponsored by Assemblyman Bill Reilich in cooperation with the New York State Library’s Statewide Summer Reading Program.
