REILICH: LAWMAKERS SHOULD BE FOCUSED ON BUDGET,
NOT ON ATTACKING SECOND AMENDMENT RIGHT
May 13, 2010
Assemblyman Bill Reilich (R, C, I - Greece) today spoke out against Democrat leaders for attacking the Second Amendment right of legal gun owners, rather than focusing on budget negotiations.
“New York is currently over $9 billion in debt with a budget that is 42 days late. Yet, rather than focusing on budget negotiations, Democrat lawmakers chose to focus their energy on attacking the Second Amendment right of legal gun owners, said Reilich. In the meantime, the hardworking people of our state continue to suffer at the hand of irresponsible state leaders, who have little concern for the people of our state.
The legislation debated today included A.6468-B, which would prohibit the sale of semi-automatic pistols manufactured after January 1, 2011 with the exception of previously micro-stamped pistols; as well as A. 10894, which requires the Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) to report on handgun licenses.
“These bills only serve to destroy the Second Amendment right of sportsmen in our community, as well as hurt those whose income is based on firearm manufacturing, stated Reilich. These bills also serve to distract lawmakers from the failing budget process. All legislative deliberations should be stopped until budget negotiations are complete.
