Today, Monroe County Sheriff Patrick O’Flynn launched a televised public service announcement about the dangers of drinking and driving.
“Drinking and driving is not only a crime but can destroy the lives of others, including friends and loved ones,” said Sheriff O’Flynn. “Over 25% of traffic deaths in New York State are alcohol related. If you are drinking, you need to be smart and have someone else drive.”
According to the 2008 Monroe County Stop-DWI Annual Report, there were almost 3,000 DWI and DWAI arrests. This is an increase of 8% during a one year period. Moreover, Monroe County has one of the highest Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) conviction percentages among large counties throughout New York State.
