Statement From NY 132ND Assembly District Candidate Mark Scuderi
Re: Joe Morelle’s Politically Opportunistic Opposition to Power Program
May 20, 2010
Like many of my neighbors and fellow residents of the 132nd Assembly District, I am puzzled by Joe Morelle’s stated opposition to a two-week extension of New York State’s ‘Power for Jobs’ program. Mr. Morelle claims that he is protecting local residents, but in recent weeks has voted with Albany Democrats seven times to extend the State’s budget crisis in order to avoid making tough decisions to close its massive deficit. With each day that passes without a budget – as Mr. Morelle continues to put politics and special interests before the needs of everyday people – our community’s taxpayers and families are placed at risk.
Furthermore, despite standing in lock-step with Albany Democrats who supported the “Power for Jobs” legislation for years, Mr. Morelle now claims to be turning his back on his own party in Albany. As a sitting member on two powerful Assembly committees that approve the State’s out-of-control spending, Mr. Morelle should not be credited with standing up to the problem – he is the problem. Our community’s taxpayers won’t be fooled by Mr. Morelle’s deception. They know he has voted with Leader Sheldon Silver the majority of the time during his 20 years in Albany and they deserve an Assemblyman with integrity who will put people before politics.”
